August 2024 Update

Hi, poetry lovers!

Blue Rose is finally out in the world! I had the thought the other day that since releasing it, it doesn’t feel like mine anymore. And I felt it in the way that a public work of art starts to belong to both the artist and the reader/viewer. But I also felt like I didn’t even write it; it just came into being. I think part of that is because it’s so different from my other books and published poems. I think the other part is that it’s been so long since I finished writing it. I’ve spent months just working on the formatting, marketing, and admin stuff that I almost felt separate from the content itself.

I’m already itching to start working on my next book, but I also know I need to give myself a breather. On that note, I’ll be taking a few months off from my monthly newsletter as I shift priorities for a bit.

This month, I’ll be reading Yellow Arrow Journal submissions, attending Amy Kay’s poetry retreat, and cat sitting for my neighbors. (which means I get a whole quiet house to myself for a few hours every day… and cats!).

What are your end of summer plans?

Free Palestine.

Love, Kait
